What is a blog?

November 19th, 2006 · 1 Comment

Lets kick things off here at Problogging and explain the very fundamental thing that is running this website – a blog. The word blog is short for weblog, which is a website that keeps a chronological order of information. Blogs started as a personal website type diary that linked to other websites or articles on the internet, but the last few years has seen blogs range from personal to political, sports to cars, marketing to finance, kids toys to computers. This website you are reading is a blog focused on helping you make money from blogging, which is just another niche type of blog.

This is my 3rd blog that I am running. The first blog is my personal blog – jasonbagley.com. That is where I rant and rave about anything that I want to! It is more of a personal blog, but I don’t exactly write about my day, and what I had for breakfast, as nobody really is interested in that. I write about things that people would either relate to, or things I have learnt, that I want to share with others.

My second blog is called IT Week. IT Week is where I write about technology, gadgets, the internet and anything related to IT. This is the blog that I have learnt the most off, in terms of making money online, and it is really starting to take off.

So there you have 2 blogs that you can have a look at, that will give you the feel of what a blog looks like. (Don’t forget that this is also a blog!)

Articles

This article you are reading, is also sometimes called a post or an entry. This is the heart of every blog. It’s the content that makes up a blog, and without content, you wouldn’t have a website! Every post will be date stamped, would be categorized and have the a comment form. – All these things can be turned on and off, but they are what is normally displayed by default.

Comments

Blogging is also a form of communication, and being able to communicate, or comment on what I have written is what makes a blog so powerful! So when you read a post somebody has written, and you have a question or something to add to his post, or maybe you don’t agree with what was written, you then have the opportunity to have your say!

So there you go. These are the very basics of what a blog is. If you have any questions or “comments”, fill in the form below!
